The images shown here were created using a Harbor Freight Arbor Press. Moreover, we placed a thick piece of leather on top of the stamp to help spread the pressure evenly. Crucially, before you stamp, the leather must be cased (or wetted). Be sure to moisten the entire piece of leather with a wet sponge. If you don’t wet all the leather, you will get water spots on the leather that will not look good. These are made for use with an arbor press or by placing in a vise and applying slow, even pressure. These WILL NOT withstand hammer blows. Arbor Press Instructions: To begin, place a piece of cased leather on a solid platform under the arbor press anvil. Next, place the stamp on top of the cased leather. Then, place another solid platform (you can use a piece of metal or wood stock) on top of the stamp. Afterward, press down with the arbor press and hold the pressure for 15-20 seconds. Finally, check the impression and repeat the process if needed to make it deeper. Vise Instructions: Alternatively, place the cased leather and stamp between two hard objects, like small boards. Be sure to squeeze them tightly so the stamp stays exactly where you want it. Next, place the entire assembly inside the vise. Then, tighten the vise and hold for 15-20 seconds. After that, release the vise and look at the imprint depth. Again, repeat until the impression is perfect. Want to see how to prep your leather?
